80 Thoughtful Get Well Wishes and Messages

Get well cards are the hardest ones to write. Say too little and it feels like a formality; say too much and you risk making someone focus on how ill they are. The messages that land are short, warm and free of pressure they say "I'm thinking of you" without asking anything back.

Below are 80 get well wishes grouped by who you are writing to and what they are going through. Copy one straight onto a card, or use it as a starting point. Our Get Well Soon flowers can be sent with a hand-written message the same day across North London.

What to Write in a Get Well Card

The best get well message does three things and stops:

  • · Acknowledge, don't dwell. "Sorry to hear you're unwell" is enough. Avoid detailed talk about the illness or comparisons to someone else's experience.
  • · Offer something specific. "I'll drop dinner round Thursday" is far more useful than "let me know if you need anything".
  • · Remove the pressure. Add a line like "no need to reply" so the card is a gift rather than an obligation.

Two things to avoid: don't promise a specific recovery timeline ("you'll be fine in a week"), and don't use forced positivity with someone facing something serious. If the situation is grave, "thinking of you" is more honest and kinder than "get well soon".

Choosing Get Well Flowers

Flowers lift a hospital room or a recovery sofa instantly, but a few practical points matter:

Skip strong scents. Lilies, freesias and stock perfume a whole room, which is lovely at home but overwhelming in a small ward. Choose unscented alternatives like gerberas, alstroemeria or Asiatic lilies.

Check hospital policy first. Many UK wards no longer accept flowers. If in doubt, send to the home address, or send Balloons, a Teddy Bear or a Gift Box instead.

Go bright, not sombre. Yellows, oranges and warm pinks read as cheerful. Our Handtied Bouquets are made up fresh each morning and can be arranged in exactly those tones on request.

Order before 2pm and our Same Day Flowers service delivers Monday to Saturday across Arnos Grove, Barnet, Finchley, Highgate, Islington, Tottenham, Walthamstow and the wider North London area. Full details are on our Delivery page.

FAQs: Get Well Wishes

What is a good short get well message?

"Thinking of you and hoping you feel better very soon." It works for anyone — friend, relative or colleague — and fits on a flower card.

What should you not write in a get well card?

Avoid detailed questions about the diagnosis, stories about others with the same condition, promises about how quickly they'll recover, and anything that implies they should be back at work sooner.

What do you write to someone who is seriously ill?

Use "thinking of you" rather than "get well soon". Focus on your presence and affection rather than recovery, and offer one concrete form of help.

Are flowers allowed in hospitals in the UK?

Policy varies by ward — many restrict them for infection-control reasons. Check with the ward first, or send to the patient's home instead.

Can I send get well flowers the same day?

Yes. Order before 2pm for same-day delivery across North London, Monday to Saturday. Click and collect is available with two hours' notice.
